About The Role The Learning and Behaviour Centre's Driver is responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of school‐aged children to and from Learning and Behaviour units, following an approved school bus route in accordance with the Department's School Transport Policy and procedures. This role may also include the transport of students for excursions as negotiated. This role plays an important part in supporting students to attend short-term, restorative education programs designed to help them re-engage with learning, develop positive behaviours, and transition successfully back to school or into suitable education pathways.
The driver will be assigned to a designated catchment area but may be required to work across two areas as needed. Student transport in a 12-seater van will primarily cover locations such as:
* Northern – Eastern Adelaide – Gawler, Birdwood, Elizabeth and Two Wells
* Southern Adelaide – Aldinga, Blackwood, Marion and Fleurieu Peninsula
* Western Adelaide – Largs Bay, Glenelg and Adelaide city
The position also includes the completion of a daily van checklist and ensuring that the van is kept clean inside and out. Additionally, the driver is responsible for a range of administration duties related to the transportation of students. The driver is expected to follow and abide by the Road Traffic Act and have a knowledge of the Code of Practice for buses.
Hours Typical hours are 7:00am – 9:00am and 2pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday. Hours are offered on an as‐needed basis and may vary depending on operational requirements.

About The Learning And Behaviour Centres
The Beafield, Cowandilla and Southern Learning Centres work in partnership with schools, students, families, carers and support services to provide short‐term, targeted, restorative education programs for students who require intervention beyond the capacity of a mainstream classroom. Students access learning centre programs by a school referral, which can be made either directly by their school principal (or delegate) to the learning centre manager or by a member of the Integrated Support Services working with the student and the school.
Six better behaviour centres (BBC) in South Australia offer restorative early intervention programs to help students re‐engage with mainstream education. These programs include personalised literacy, numeracy, and social skills support. Each centre also provides social and emotional support for students and families, promoting a holistic approach to behaviour management.
Key Outcomes
The Learning And Behaviour Centre's Driver Will
* Safely operate the van at all times, demonstrating sound judgment and care in response to road, traffic, and weather conditions.
* Ensure the safety and wellbeing of students and other authorised passengers while boarding, travelling, and exiting the vehicle.
* Engage positively and respectfully with students, applying strength‐based and restorative approaches to support appropriate behaviour.
* Complete required Crisis Prevention Institute Safety Interventions for Children training and implement best practices for managing student behaviour.
* Follow assigned transport routes to collect and deliver students between home and sites during scheduled morning and afternoon shifts, with flexibility for additional journeys as required.
* Comply with all road laws, speed limits, and departmental transport regulations at all times.
* Conduct thorough pre‐ and post‐trip inspections, ensuring no student remains on the vehicle and all safety procedures are followed.
* Maintain the van in a clean, safe, and roadworthy condition, ensuring regular servicing, maintenance, and daily refuelling or recharging.
* Accurately complete administrative and transport documentation, including student rolls, log sheets, timesheets, and related records, and assist with route coordination or taxi scheduling as directed.
* Promote a safe and healthy work environment by reporting incidents, hazards, and injuries in line with Department for Education WHS procedures.
* Comply with all Department for Education School Transport Policies and Procedures.
Special Conditions
* This is a casual, hourly‐paid position employed under the South Australian Government Transport Workers Award 1994, Schedule 1 – Driver of Passenger Vehicle (under 25 passengers).
* Additional incentives such as a travel assistance payment, and payment of license renewal and accreditation fees may apply as negotiated with successful applicant.
* The role requires travel between multiple Learning and Behaviour Centre sites.
* The incumbent may be required to participate in relevant training and professional development, including behaviour intervention and WHS compliance.
Essential Requirements
* Have a current C Class License
* Have driver accreditation including medical clearance
* Have a current general Department of Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC)
* Complete a full day Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care training (RRHAN‐EC)and maintain training by holding a current approved full day or update Responding to Abuse and Neglect training certificate
* Be an Australian resident either with an Australian birth certificate, residency permit or current work visa.
* Complete Crisis Prevention Institute Safety Interventions for Children training.

* Knowledge of the National Heavy Vehicle Laws, Road Traffic Act, and Code of Practice for Buses
