Job Description
Maintenance Manager Role:
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced and forward-thinking Maintenance Manager to lead the delivery of critical maintenance services across Wollongong's civil infrastructure, rock pools, fleet & plant mechanical, and metal fabrication teams.
The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping the future of our city's essential assets and services by implementing intelligent defect management for road corridor assets and driving innovation to improve both civil maintenance and workshop functions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Embed a safety-first culture across the maintenance and workshop teams, ensuring compliance and commitment to WHS & Environment and fostering a proactive approach to risk management.
2. Organise, schedule, prioritise, control, and coordinate the delivery of maintenance for all civil assets throughout the city— including footpaths, roads, kerb and gutters, stormwater and drainage, rock pools, carparks, cycleways, and pathways.
3. Oversee the effective operation and continuous improvement of the Council's workshop, including fleet, plant, equipment, and metal fabrication (Boilermakers), ensuring optimal asset uptime and lifecycle management.
4. Lead the response to community incidents and liaise with local emergency service agencies and providers, acting as Council's operational liaison for emergency management.
5. Collaborate with the Infrastructure Strategy and Planning Division to enhance the team's expertise in asset condition assessment, including preparing management plans, maintenance schedules, conducting condition surveys, and ensuring work management compliance.
Requirements
Our ideal candidate has extensive experience in civil asset maintenance, workshop operations, and management. They should have strong leadership skills, combined with practical experience in managing teams, projects, and operations to achieve exceptional results.
A deep understanding of WHS, environmental management, and relevant legislation is also crucial for ensuring safe and compliant work environments across both civil and workshop teams.
Candidates should possess a proven track record in project management, financial oversight, and contract management, coupled with the ability to develop and implement strategic plans that align with operational goals.
The successful candidate should have expertise in civil infrastructure, fleet and plant maintenance, risk management, and the maintenance of public assets.
A degree in civil engineering or a related discipline, combined with their practical experience, equips them to lead in both strategic and hands-on capacities.
We're looking for someone who can build trust, lead experienced teams through change, and create a well-oiled, high-performing maintenance operation.
