The Justice Reform Branch is seeking expressions of interest from suitable candidates to backfill the Senior Director of the Restorative Justice Unit (RJU) for a period of two months.
The RJU is located within the Justice Reform Branch of Legislation, Policy and Programs in the JACS Directorate. The RJU is a high-performing, inclusive and dynamic environment which is guided by trauma-informed and restorative practice, both with clients and with each other. The RJU provides innovative and voluntary restorative justice services to persons harmed by an offence, those responsible, and their respective communities, assisting them to journey away from harm and toward healing.
The Senior Director plays an integral role in leading the work of the RJU. The Senior Director is responsible for the effective operation of the RJ Scheme ensuring adherence to, and fulfilment of the purpose and aims of the Crimes (Restorative Justice) Act 2004 and to the Crimes (Restorative Justice) Sexual and Family Violence Guidelines 2018.
The Senior Director will have a strong understanding of and belief in restorative justice philosophy and principles. They will have a strong understanding of the criminal justice system and experience in managing a team of staff to deliver restorative justice services.
The Senior Director requires excellent communication and negotiation skills and the ability to provide high quality advice to a diverse range of criminal justice system stakeholders, senior executives and ministers in a fast-paced working environment.
The Senior Director will be a person of high integrity who models & encourages accountability, humility and a commitment to human rights principles and ethical work practices. The Senior Director will ideally be able to move from highly intuitive and creative thinking when working with the team and diverse stakeholders to logical and fine detailed work on projects, high level briefing, and administrative tasks.
In addition to overseeing the operations of the Restorative Justice Unit, the Senior Director oversees the work of two policy positions who are advancing :
* the implementation of the findings of a 20-year review of the Restorative Justice Scheme;
* an election commitment to increase the accessibility of restorative justice and support the establishment of community-based restorative practice in the ACT.

Eligibility / Other Requirements :
* Degree in criminology and / or social or behavioural sciences is highly desirable.
* Experience in the field of restorative practices is highly desirable.
* Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP). Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
