About the Role

We are looking for a talented and highly driven Head of Marketing to join our Senior Management Team (SMT) for leading marketing activities and customer experience for the entire organisation and its comprehensive range of products and services. With a mission to enhance brand visibility and customer satisfaction across Australia and New Zealand, key focus of the role is understanding market dynamics, such as curriculum changes and learning advancements, to ensure our solutions continually resonate and excite our diverse customer base.

As a senior member of the executive (SMT) leadership team, the role contributes to ANZ strategy and decision making, works collaboratively across Publishing, Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Business Development, and challenges the status quo as market conditions, customer expectations, and competitive dynamics evolve.

Key Responsibilities Leadership and Strategy
* Develop and optimise the marketing department, ensuring alignment with business direction, brand strategies, and product realisation.
* Inspire the creation of high-quality marketing content across various channels and formats.
* Formulate an integrated marketing strategy that aligns with overall business objectives.
* Build a team structure to integrate and align activities across capabilities and functions.
* Enable structured marketing content creation through effective and efficient models and processes.
* Design measurement systems to assess marketing performance against operational goals.
* Support the team with culture shift to more adaptive and agile ways of working, nurturing and embracing change.
* Act as a senior leader of the business, contributing to organisational decision making, cross functional leadership, and the overall success of OUP ANZ.
Brand Marketing and Innovation
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to generate innovative marketing solutions for products, services, and customer experiences.
* Own and monitor the marketing-innovation project portfolio.
* Cultivate a robust marketing-innovation ecosystem, both internally and externally.
* Support organisational wide and industry wide communication strategies and messages.
* Lead and manage all internal and external business communications, ensuring clear, consistent, and brand‐aligned messaging across all channels.
Digital Technology and Transformation
* Stay informed about current and emerging marketing technologies.
* Identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks in marketing content creation and technology implementation. Streamline processes and enhance productivity.
* Implement agile methodologies across the full team, fostering an agile mindset, iterative development, continuous improvement, and adaptive planning.
* Champion innovation by driving a culture of experimentation and learning with new tools, technologies, and approaches.
Customer-Centric Approach
* Actively engage with customers to understand their pain points, needs, and aspirations. Conduct surveys, focus groups, and user interviews to gather insights.
* Visualise the end-to-end customer experience, identifying touchpoints, pain points, and opportunities for improvement.
* Anticipate future needs using customer feedback and market trends to shape marketing strategies proactively.
Content Management and Expertise Evolution
* Systematically capture and retain team expertise, encouraging documentation and mentorship.
* Balance expertise retention with agile practices in content creation. Encourage collaboration and iteration.
* Evaluate and enhance the content management system (CMS), leveraging analytics for data-driven decisions.
* Invest in upskilling, connecting with other industry experts, and participating in relevant forums for continuous learning.
Financial and Governance
* Formulate comprehensive marketing investment proposals aligned with organisational strategies to ensure a steady pipeline of new and existing products to meet organisational targets.
* Monitor and manage the financial targets of the marketing department, providing regular reports and extracting valuable insights from the data to gauge the performance of products and services.
* Supervise the development and management of all marketing project costs, maintaining a focus on overall product gross margins.
* Adhere to group statutory compliance requirements and policies, ensuring their consistent application and understanding throughout the marketing team.
About You
* Marketing qualifications and successful campaign experience
* Experience in with CRM, web platforms (CMS) and Marketing tools
* Clear experience with digital marketing campaigns across all channels
* Exceptional copywriting capability, with demonstrated experience producing high‐quality content for diverse audiences and formats.
* Drive and passion to grow and achieve ambitious goals and targets
* Leadership experience, managing small/med sized teams
* Demonstrable ability to partner with staff in the business
* Highly flexible working environment
* Two work-from-home days per week and rostered Friday afternoons off (fortnightly)
