EACON Mining Technology delivers the world's most deployed autonomous haulage system. Founded in 2018 in China, EACON provides turnkey solutions that optimise surface mining operations through scalable mixed fleet autonomy. Our flagship platform, ORCASTRA, is fully OEM agnostic and compatible with trucks of any brand, whether new or existing. With vehicle level autonomy, 360-degree perception, and real time optimised dispatching, we help mines enhance safety, improve productivity, and accelerate their path to net zero. EACON also brings deep expertise in emission reducing powertrain technologies, offering hybrid electric, battery electric, and retrofit autonomy options to support a safer, greener mining future.
With the launch of Eacon Mining Technology Australia Pty Ltd in December 2023 and with the significant milestones of 2024, we have not only established our new office in West Perth but have also expanded collaboration with our partners and clients. We are rapidly growing, and as such, we are looking for talented professionals to join our thriving team in Perth.
Are you passionate about cutting-edge autonomous vehicle systems and want to see your work in action on real operational sites? We're seeking a hands-on Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS) Engineer to bridge system testing, field deployment, and technical support for next-generation mining vehicles. This role (AHS Test and Support Engineer) is not a traditional QA or software development position, it's an opportunity to develop deep, end-to-end system expertise while working across testing, troubleshooting, and on-site engineering activities.
In this role, you'll validate and support AHS platforms, including drive-by-wire vehicle controls, autonomy software, and fleet management systems. You'll work closely with both Australian project teams and China-based R&D engineers to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient system performance. The position requires active participation in deployments, commissioning, testing, and issue investigation, making it ideal for engineers who thrive in dynamic, real-world environments and enjoy seeing the tangible impact of their work.
This is a site-based position operating initially on a rotating roster of 5 days on, 2 days off, followed by 4 days on, 3 days off. This role is offered on a full-time basis and reports to our Product Architect.
Key Responsibilities include:
* Participate in system-level testing and validation during new AHS project deployments, new vehicle model integrations and major software upgrades or releases.
* Understand system architecture, functional design, interfaces and integration boundaries across the AHS platform.
* Develop, review and execute engineering-level test cases and validation activities, rather than checklist-only testing.
* Conduct functional testing and validation of autonomous driving features such as obstacle detection, obstacle avoidance, routing and dispatch behaviour.
* Analyse test failures, abnormal system behaviour and operational issues to identify root causes across software, hardware, system integration and operational scenarios.
* Document issues in a clear, structured and engineering-focused manner and communicate findings to R&D and product teams.
* Support test planning activities, including test scope definition, resource and environment planning, and coordination with engineering and deployment teams.
* Actively participate in L2 technical support for complex AHS system issues that cannot be resolved through manuals or standard procedures.
* Provide on-site technical support during deployment, commissioning, troubleshooting and operational phases.
* Support installation, commissioning, configuration and calibration of mining trucks, ancillary equipment and system sensors.
* Diagnose and troubleshoot real-time issues across hardware, software and communication systems during field operations.
* Support maintenance activities, system upgrades and operational performance improvements for all AHS-related systems.
* Capture, analyse and report system logs, test data and operational data, and prepare test plans, procedures and technical documentation.
* Escalate issues to China-based R&D teams with clear technical context and support investigation and solution development.
* Communicate clearly with local project teams regarding plans, task priorities, testing schedules, dependencies and risks.
* Work with customers and site stakeholders to support system changes and capture operational feedback.
* Participate in operational risk assessments, HAZID and safety-related review processes.
* Contribute to building and maintaining an on-site knowledge base and standardising troubleshooting, diagnostics and support processes.
* Conduct functional testing of autonomous driving features (e.g. obstacle avoidance, emergency stop, route following).
* Test and calibrate by-wire systems (steering, braking, throttle, shifting).
* Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in real-time on vehicles and systems.
* Communicate effectively with the China R&D team to report issues, request support, and provide feedback.
* Support GNSS calibration, sensor alignment, and CAN bus diagnostics.
* Prepare test plans, logs, and technical documentation.
* Participate in field validation, commissioning, and demonstrations.
Essential Criteria:
* Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Engineering or a related technical field.
* Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar role or at a minimum testing, validation or technical support experience.
* Previous Mining Experience
* Western Australian Driver's License
* Proficiency in both Mandarin and English with strong technical communication skills.
* Knowledge of vehicle control systems and sensors used in autonomous or robotic systems, such as CAN bus, LiDAR, cameras, GNSS and RTK.
* Working knowledge of Linux environments, basic scripting and databases.
* Experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Python or Java.
* Familiarity with system testing, verification, validation and system integration processes.
* Basic understanding of networking and communication systems.
* Strong hands-on mindset with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues under pressure in a field environment.
Desired Criteria:
* Experience working on mine sites, with autonomous equipment, vehicle systems or industrial automation is highly desirable.
What We Offer:
* Competitive salary for the right candidate and experience level
* Annual allowance towards Private Health Insurance (after successful completion of the probationary period)
* Join a market-leading technology company and thrive as you take the lead in this role.
