Working as a dedicated advocate, you will play a vital role in the Child and Family Advocacy Service (ACFAS). In this challenging yet rewarding position, you will be responsible for providing culturally sensitive legal advice and representation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and carers. Key objectives include delivering early intervention services, community legal education, and referrals to support holistic client outcomes.
Responsibilities
* Early Intervention: Provide timely and effective legal advice and representation to prevent child protection and family law issues from escalating.
* Community Engagement: Develop relationships with local communities, stakeholders, and service providers to raise awareness about available resources and support services.
* Culturally Sensitive Support: Deliver legal advice and representation that is respectful of clients' cultural backgrounds and values.
You will work collaboratively with other advocates, lawyers, and non-legal staff to ensure cohesive service delivery and achieve the best possible outcomes for our clients. To succeed in this role, you will need excellent communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to manage complex cases independently.
Requirements
* Australian Solicitor's Practising Certificate (or equivalent) and experience working in care and protection law.
* Demonstrated commitment to social justice principles and a passion for advocating for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
* Excellent communication, research, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage a diverse workload.
