Company An established renewable energy developer is seeking a Head of Grid Connection / Head of Power Systems to lead its grid connection and power systems capability across Australia. This role will lead the Grid / Power Systems Engineering function, providing strategic and technical leadership across development, connection, and commissioning phases while mentoring a team of senior engineers. The position will play a critical role in shaping grid strategy, managing complex connection processes with AEMO and Network Service Providers, and ensuring projects achieve successful connection outcomes in an increasingly complex grid environment. The Role: As Head of Grid Connection, you will lead the organisation’s grid strategy and power systems engineering capability across its Australian portfolio of renewable energy projects. You will oversee grid modelling, connection strategy, compliance, and negotiations, ensuring projects progress efficiently through the connection process from early development through to commissioning and registration. The role will also lead and develop a team of power systems engineers responsible for delivering R0, R1 and R2 grid connection studies and modelling in-house. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership Define and lead the organisation’s grid connection strategy across utility-scale renewable projects Provide technical oversight of power system modelling, connection studies and compliance activities Shape modelling methodologies and internal capability across RMS and EMT studies Represent the company in technical discussions with AEMO, NSPs, OEMs and EPC contractors Provide grid advice to support project development, site selection and commercial strategy Grid Connection & Technical Delivery Oversee delivery of power system studies across the grid connection lifecycle Ensure successful progression through Connection Enquiry, Application to Connect, GPS negotiation and registration Lead internal modelling activities across tools such as PSSE, PSCAD and PowerFactory Guide the preparation and review of R0, R1 and R2 studies, hold point reports and validation testing Provide technical leadership on system strength, power quality, harmonic performance and protection coordination Stakeholder Engagement Lead negotiations with AEMO and Network Service Providers Support the negotiation of Generator Performance Standards Coordinate technical inputs across developers, EPC contractors, consultants and OEMs Represent the business in industry forums and regulatory consultations Team Leadership Lead, mentor and grow a high-performing power systems engineering team Develop internal capability across modelling, compliance and grid connection processes Contribute to recruitment, capability development and resourcing strategy Foster strong collaboration between engineering, development and delivery teams About You You are a seasoned power systems engineer & leader with deep expertise in grid connection of renewable generation and storage projects, with the ability to lead complex technical negotiations and guide connection strategy at a portfolio level.
