You will contribute to the automation of advanced composite manufacturing, including proprietary moulding techniques, CNC machining, test and validation. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, problem-solving skills, and a passion for working in an innovative, hands-on environment.Job Responsibilities:Automation of Manufacturing Processes: Work on the design, development, and optimization of automated systems for advanced composite manufacturing. Focus on integrating mechanical, electrical, and software systems for seamless operation.Proprietary Moulding Techniques: Collaborate with the team to enhance and scale our composite moulding processes.Design & Prototyping: Create mechanical designs and prototypes using CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.), including the development of new tools, fixtures, and assembly equipment for composite manufacturing.CNC Machining: Support the prototype manufacture of new mould designs using in-house CNC capability and working with external suppliers.Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting: Identify and solve complex engineering problems related to materials (metals, composites and resins), manufacturing processes, automation, and system integration.Test & Validation: Lead testing phases, analyse performance data, and validate new techniques, materials, and processes to improve quality, productivity, and sustainability.Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work in a small engineering team, alongside other engineers and technicians to integrate mechanical engineering solutions alongside electrical, software, mechatronics and materials science aspects, within a broader Systems Engineering framework.Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with the latest advances in composite materials, manufacturing processes, and automation technologies. Continuously strive to improve processes, increase efficiency, and reduce costs.Required Skills / Experience:Education: A recent graduate (or soon to graduate) with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related STEM field.Proficiency in 3D CAD design (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).Understanding of mechanical design, material science, and manufacturing processes.Strong understanding of mechanical testing and validation.Basic knowledge of automation systems and control mechanisms.Exposure to composite materials and manufacturing techniques.Familiarity with automation tools and software (e.g., PLC programming, SCADA systems).Knowledge of additive manufacturing or rapid prototyping methods.Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Ability to approach complex problems with a structured, analytical mindset and design practical, efficient solutions.Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.Hands-on Approach: Willingness to work in the hands-on environment of a dynamic start-up working across a range of tasks including design, prototyping, testing, and assembly.Adaptability & Learning: Eagerness to learn new technologies and techniques, and the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-changing, start-up environment.You must be an Australian citizen, have permanent residency status or a visa permitting you to work in Australia.
