Primary objective
As a teacher and member of the Maningrida College community, design, deliver and evaluate learning programs and monitor student
achievement to address individual learning needs, including targeted, evidence-based instruction. Use data to develop learning programs,
track progress and collaborate with classroom teachers and school leadership, to build foundational skills and improve overall literacy
outcomes, focusing on explicit, systematic, and multi-sensory approaches.
Context statement
Maningrida Community College is located in one of the largest Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory, 550 kms east of Darwin.
Maningrida Community College offers education to approximately 660 students from age 0 to senior years as well as proving education
services to up to 15 Homeland Learning Centres. The College incorporates an Indigenous Languages and Culture Centre, Learning on
Country Program, Trade Training Centre, Family and Children Centre and Families as First Teachers program.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Plan, prepare and explicitly deliver quality and effective teaching and learning programs which are consistent with the Australian
Professional Standards for Teachers and relevant curriculum policies, work programs and educational trends.
2. Support students through interaction in a variety of settings and through the active development of supportive learning
environments and effective behaviour management practice, when delivering to intervention groups or classroom teaching
3. Provide for the physical, social, cultural and emotional well- being and safety of students whilst at school.
1. Regularly assess students (diagnostic, formative and summative) for developmental, feedback and reporting purposes.
2. Maintain student records and samples of work and report on student performance to students, parents, the department and other
stakeholders as required.
6. Establish and maintain appropriate interpersonal relationships between the school, parents and community.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Ability to plan, prepare and deliver quality teaching and learning programs with a focus on literacy intervention to meet the diverse
characteristics, needs and learning styles of students, which are consistent with relevant curriculum policies, work programs and
education trends.
1. Knowledge of and the ability to implement effective and inclusive teaching and learning processes and the ability to communicate and
build effective supportive relationships with remote indigenous students using appropriate interpersonal skills and EALD strategies.
1. Knowledge and experience in systematic synthetic phonics, phonological awareness, early pre-reading literacy skill development and
the Science of reading in addition to proven ability to collect, track, analyse and use data for literacy intervention program delivery
1. Ability to plan and apply appropriate trauma-informed behaviour management strategies aligned to whole school practices that
contribute to establishing and maintaining a supportive learning environment.
1. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with school staff across teaching and leadership teams, families and
members of the local community in order to establish and develop productive partnerships, in a remote Indigenous education
environment to achieve optimal outcomes.
1. Proven ability to be flexible, adaptive and responsive to change, high levels of initiative with a strong, positive and collaborative
approach and a willingness to learn and develop while working as part of a team.
