Business Analyst | AI & Governance Tools
Initial contract to commence Feb 2026 until Feb 2027 with possible extension; paying approx $900/day. Location: Brisbane City Fringe with flexibility to WFH 2 days per week. BA's with higher education experience and knowledge of AI technology and tools highly desirable.
Our client, a large complex organisation within the higher education sector, is currently seeking a Business Analyst for an initial 12-month contract for their AI Governance & Tools project. The Business Analyst will play a key role in leading, managing and coordinating the translation of business requirements into tangible business analysis artefacts and solutions to achieve the desired outcomes. The Business Analyst is responsible for bridging the gap between business needs and technology solutions, analysing data, and providing strategic recommendations to improve processes and achieve business goals.
Key Responsibilities
* Analyse Business Needs: Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and document business requirements, ensuring clarity and understanding of project objectives.
* Eliciting Requirements: Both functional and non-functional, creating use cases and user stories and other required project documentation.
* Requirements Management: Work closely with various stakeholder groups to effectively discover, define, validate, prioritise and continuously manage requirements that translate identified needs into solution outcomes which align with architectural principles and strategies.
* Documentation: Create detailed documentation of requirements, workflows and outcomes, including business process models to illustrate current and future states.
* Workshop Facilitation: Effectively facilitate sessions with diverse stakeholder groups, leveraging best-practice techniques and methodologies (such as design and systems thinking) to achieve desired objectives and outcomes.
* Collaboration: Collaborate with technical specialists, service‑management stakeholders and relevant subject matter experts. Work with project team members to ensure processes are developed and coordinated with technological uplift to ensure process changes are implemented effectively.
* Reporting: Generate reports to communicate findings effectively to executive audiences and other stakeholder groups.
* Benefits Management: Monitor and report on the benefits and performance of new processes and make recommendations for further improvements.
* Implementation Support: Participate in testing and validating new systems and processes to meet business requirements and ensure alignment with business goals.
* Training Support: Provide training and support to staff on new processes and tools.
* Data Analysis: Analyse dataset(s) to derive actionable insights, identify trends, and support decision‑making processes.
* Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies in workflows or systems and propose solutions to optimise business processes.
* Liaison Role: Act as liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring smooth communication and understanding of project objectives.
Key Deliverables & Milestones
As this is a new project, the schedules and milestones are yet to be determined. However, the resource will be required to adhere to the requirements of the organisations project management, testing, change management and software development frameworks, standards and lifecycles in the delivery of the various artefacts.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
* Minimum 5 years' experience as a Lead Business Analyst or similar role.
* Significant experience in business analysis techniques, with the demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders and peers to conduct analysis, and rapidly and accurately elicit requirements.
* Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving skills including the ability to conceptualise, establish and implement initiatives within a specified framework, including the ability to develop process mapping (as‑is & to‑be in BPMN), data and systems documentation in accordance with industry standards.
* Demonstrated experience supporting the successful delivery of high‑impact and high‑value initiatives that lead to meaningful change and continuous improvement, with a proven ability to use initiative and self‑drive to meet demanding deadlines.
* Excellent written communication skills, including the demonstrated ability to write clear and precise user and technical specifications, showcase presentations and reports.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills that cultivate and maintain productive, collaborative and outcomes‑focused working relationships to anticipate and negotiate changes in client expectations and requirements.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Highly Desirable
* Higher Education sector or Government experience.
* Experience in SaaS/COTS solution procurements and implementations.
* Knowledge of AI technology and tools highly desirable.

Casual Loading
Please note for all Australian based contract and temporary roles only, the pay rate is inclusive of mandatory 25% casual loading. This excludes permanent and fixed term roles.
