Destec is a diversified mining contractor with a fast-growing client base, providing ore crushing, screening and materials handling to the mining industry. We take pride in innovation through designing, constructing, building, maintaining and operating our own crushing and screening plants for Tier 1 mining sites, and providing ore processing and materials handling services across Western Australia.
The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced HSE Advisor to join our site-based team on a FIFO (Fly-In, Fly-Out) basis, working an 8/6 roster. In this role, you will provide expert HSE advice and support to our project operations, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and company standards. A key focus will be the development and delivery of HSE training programs and conducting competency assessments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective HSE management systems and procedures.
- Foster a positive safety culture through effective communication and engagement.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance.
- Investigate incidents and near misses and implement corrective actions.
- Deliver engaging HSE training programs to site personnel.
- Conduct competency assessments and maintain accurate training records.
- Provide expert advice on HSE legislation, regulations and best practices.
- Prepare and present HSE reports and statistics.
- Ensure all emergency response plans are in place and understood.
Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in an HSE Advisor role, preferably in a FIFO environment.
- Formal qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., Diploma, Degree).
- Robust knowledge of relevant HSE legislation and regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct competency assessments.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver’s license.
Desirable Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or equivalent).
- Relevant industry‑specific certifications (e.g., ICAM, Root Cause Analysis).
- First Aid and CPR certifications.
