 
        
        Graduate Materials Engineer and Scientist 
Steel Mains is Australia’s leading manufacturer and supplier of complete pipeline systems for the transportation of water and wastewater, offering a total solutions approach to its customers. 
Our Plant in Somerton, Victoria is currently looking for a Graduate Materials Engineer and Scientist to join the team on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Quality & Technology Manager, the Graduate Materials Engineer and Scientist is responsible for delivering materials support for Steel Mains’ operations, including lab product testing, technical investigations, and NATA-accredited reporting. 
The successful candidate will benefit from comprehensive onsite training and dedicated mentoring in this role. 
Key Responsibilities 
- Provide materials knowledge and technical support across the business 
- Coordinate internal and external product testing and maintain documentation 
- Act as a NATA report signatory and contribute to laboratory accreditation 
- Perform investigations, testing, and generate technical reports 
- Catalogue and digitise technical IP using AI tools and assist in developing a technology AI model 
- Provide technical support to customers and internal business divisions as required. 
- Review tender documentation, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and Manufacturer Data Reports (MDRs) 
- Participate in supplier audits and quality assurance processes 
The successful candidate will have: 
- Degree in Materials Engineering or Metallurgy or related Materials science qualification 
- Strong skills in MS Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint 
- Understanding of commercial requirements in regard to our contracts 
- Familiarity with quality systems and standards desired 
- An interest in developing AI models (desirable, not essential)
