About the Role

This opportunity is available on a full‐time or part‐time basis and is a fixed term until 30 June 2027. The role is based in Queanbeyan and may include some travel. The Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) Officer will deliver a population and preventative health approach to reducing nicotine and tobacco use among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the South‐East NSW regions. This is an Aboriginal Identified Position authorised under the S14d of the NSW Anti Discrimination Act 1977.

Skills & Experience

* Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be an active member within the local community
* Minimum Certificate III in Aboriginal Health Work, or qualifications in Health Promotion, Community Work or similar, or willingness to undertake training in this area
* Comprehensive understanding of the local community and social determinants of health
* Demonstrated ability to work with and understand the needs of Aboriginal communities

Duties

* Support and promote programs, activities, and workshops focused on quitting smoking and/or vaping.
* Assist with developing and delivering community education on the impacts of tobacco and vapour use to promote healthy living.
* Engage and collaborate with consumers, families/carers, GPH staff, consortium partners, GPs, and government and non‐government agencies.
* Build strong community connections to enhance participation and support across Aboriginal Health initiatives.
