About the Role
The OFOW Manager leads and oversees the Our Families Our Way program, supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families engaged with the child protection system.
This role provides strong cultural leadership and operational oversight to ensure the program delivers high-quality, family-led support that is trauma-informed, culturally safe, and aligned with statutory requirements.
You will lead a dedicated team, build strong community partnerships, and drive positive outcomes for children and families through culturally grounded practice.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Management
* Lead and coordinate the OFOW program to ensure timely, culturally safe service delivery and meaningful outcomes.
* Oversee program planning, monitoring, and continuous improvement
* Ensure compliance with funding, legislative, and organisational requirements
* Manage risk, governance, and quality systems
Cultural Leadership
* Provide cultural guidance and leadership across the program
* Support culturally safe practice grounded in kinship, community, and culture
* Advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self-determination in child protection decisions
* Work alongside with Elders and cultural advisors to strengthen kinship-led decision making and culturally safe practice
Team Leadership
* Lead, supervise, and support OFOW staff
* Build a strong team culture, supporting professional development and wellbeing
* Manage performance, workload, and staff growth
* Foster a supportive and respectful team environment where staff feel valued and empowered
Case Management Oversight
* Support staff with complex case work and decision-making
* Ensure family meetings, planning, and family time arrangements are culturally respectful and child-focused
* Ensure children’s voices are central in planning and decision-making
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
* Build and maintain relationships with community organisations, service providers, and government agencies
* Promote Kambu Health services at community events
* Represent OFOW in interagency forums and networks
About You
You are a strong leader who is deeply committed to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, culture, and community. You bring experience in child protection or family support services and have strong cultural knowledge, community connections, and a commitment to culturally safe practice. You understand the importance of kinship, Elders, and community authority in decision-making, and you lead with integrity, respect, and compassion.
Selection Criteria:
* Leadership experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander or human services settings
* Strong cultural knowledge and connection to community
* Experience working within child protection or family support systems
* Excellent communication, reporting, and relationship-building skills
* Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
* Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office and client management systems
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Mandatory Requirements
* Current QLD C Class Driver Licence
* Current Blue Card (or willingness to obtain)
* Current Criminal History Check
* Hepatitis B immunisation evidence
* Up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination evidence
