We are looking for a passionate and highly motivated individual looking for real impact in their work. The Junior Ecologist position is full-time, mixing field-based and office-based work, assisting with the delivery of consulting services focusing on biodiversity offsets, but also contributing to carbon offsets and other natural capital projects throughout Queensland and elsewhere in Australia.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver fieldwork programs by undertaking a variety of regular, field-based ecological surveys, including ground-truthing of regional ecosystem mapping, BioCondition assessments, pest animal and weed surveys as well as fauna surveys.
Provide support to the delivery of consulting projects, including ecological surveys, environmental offsets and carbon projects and environmental co-benefit projects.
Undertake research, analytical, data management and information collation tasks relating to projects.
Assist with managing complex datasets and the development, and implementation of, information management tools and systems.
Assist with the delivery of biodiversity, and carbon offset projects, contributing to various reports, written communications and other project initiatives.
Experience required
A degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Environmental Management, Environmental Science or similar.
Experience in ecological survey and assessment, including acquired knowledge in identification of fauna group/s or flora.
Willingness to travel to carry out field-based assessments (occasionally for 10+ days) in often remote and rugged environments as required. Must be licensed to drive a motor vehicle.
Experience in preparing ecological, management and environmental assessment reports.
Experience in spatial data management GIS (ArcGIS/ArcPro, QGIS etc) would be highly regarded but not essential.
