OPBG is both a natural sanctuary and a cultural space, offering visitors a peaceful environment in which to connect with the desert landscape, learn about native flora, and reflect on the profound Aboriginal significance of the site.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in one of Central Australia\'s most iconic natural environments, while working toward a nationally recognised horticultural trade qualification.
No prior experience is required – just a strong desire to learn and build a career in horticulture.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist with the care and maintenance of native plant collectionsLearn and apply horticultural techniques such as planting, propagation, pruning, pest control, and irrigationOperate hand tools and small machinery (training provided)Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environmentCollaborate with a diverse team, including staff, volunteers, and correctional workersParticipate in Garden events and community activities as neededUndertake a Certificate II leading to a Certificate III in HorticultureEssential CriteriaA keen interest in the natural environment, horticulture, and outdoor workStrong motivation to complete a horticultural apprenticeship and gain a trade qualificationCapacity to work independently and safelyGood written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work respectfully with people from diverse backgroundsWillingness to learn and take directionWillingness and ability to travel to Darwin for some aspects of trainingDesirableBasic knowledge of desert plants or the local environment (not essential)Open to all; Aboriginal people are encouraged to apply.How to ApplyPlease submit a short cover letter outlining your interest in the role and your resume.
