Role
TRAINEE CORRECTIONAL OFFICER - trainees will work as part of a team responsible for the safe, secure, and humane management of prisoners.
Responsibilities
* Supervise, monitor and manage prisoners.
* Employ appropriate security measures to ensure safe custody, including monitoring property and equipment and conducting random searches for contraband.
* Advising prisoners of their rights and responsibilities while in custody.
* Ensure prisoners maintain acceptable hygiene and cleanliness by conducting regular cell inspections.
* Assist in determining a prisoner's rehabilitation plan and support attendance.
* Provide reports on prisoner rehabilitation, security, welfare and behaviour.
* Undertake escorts – transport and supervision of prisoners outside the correctional centre.
* Prepare formal reports about incidents.
* Respond to emergencies, including prisoner conflict, injuries and medical crises.
* Participate in ongoing training to maintain currency of core qualifications.
Qualifications
* Australian or New Zealand citizen, or permanent resident of Australia with a valid visa that allows full work rights.
* Hold a full Northern Territory driver's licence and be competent in driving manual vehicles.
* Hold a valid first aid certificate (HLTAID011) that is at least six months old.
* Complete the national CSC30122 Certificate III in Correctional Practice (or equivalent).
* Completed Year 10 education.
* Demonstrate a good level of fitness through a fitness test.
* Demonstrate competence in literacy, numeracy and aptitude through appropriate testing.
* Be of good character, with strong communication and organisational skills.
* Pass a full criminal history check, with disclosure of all convictions.

Training Salary
* Salary during the first 8‐week block training: $62,167 plus 12% superannuation.
* Salary during weeks 8‐11: $62,167 plus 40% allowance plus 12% superannuation ($97,477).
* Salary after training: $69,074 plus 40% allowance plus 12% superannuation ($108,308).
