About the Role: We are seeking an External Communications Manager for a Permanent - Full placement based in SA/NT Divisional Headquarters. Purpose of the Role: The purpose of the External Communications Manager role is to create and connect The Salvation Army’s links to community partners, with a focus on areas such as state and local government, state and local media, service groups, and community organisations across the breadth of society. This role is accountable for state-based community engagement initiatives and will provide support and collaboration in Communications portfolio activities. The remit of this role is to lift community connections and to build and maintain positive relationships on behalf of The Salvation Army Australia. Key Roles and Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership Implement and monitor the Communications Portfolio strategy within the Division. Support the Division with appropriate initiatives and opportunities. Provide briefings and reports to the Executive External Communications Manager on operational matters. Keep Divisional leadership informed on current activities and significant events associated with external communications. Brand and Mission Alignment Work with the Communications portfolio to uphold TSA’s brand message, presence and alignment to the mission and vision through all Salvation Army activities in the State. Support Schools Engagement team/s across the Division. Support all fundraising activities across the Division. Government and Community Relations Develop and implement TSA government relations practice in creating networks and pathways with Local, State and Federal Members within the Division. Initiate and lead community engagement activities, where required, across the state. As directed, establish and nurture external relationships and influential networks to advance organization missional and strategic objectives, inclusive of advisory and networking groups. Media and Campaign Engagement Develop and engage with media organisations and work with the national Campaign Communications and Media team for proactive and reactive activity on issues and campaigns, as required. In consultation with the National Media Team proactively engage with State/Regional/Local Media agencies to present The Salvation Army mission interest and policy position. Leverage networks and relationships to enhance the effectiveness of the fundraising campaigns through referrals, introductions, and media engagements. Technical Communication Support Maintain a State/Territory Government key stakeholder relationship database capturing engagement activities/meetings and subject matter considered. External Communications Managers will provide support and collaborate with the National Events team on the implementation of Red Shield Appeal launch and Christmas Thank You events. Financial and Commercial Leadership Maintain awareness of TSA’s constant fundraising needs and refer opportunities to the Head of Fundraising (or their delegate). Act with awareness of grant and funding opportunities in Local and State Government portfolios and make referral to relevant TSA manager (THQ/Division/Mission/Enterprise). Adhere to relevant government law and codes of conduct requirements. Risk and Compliance Management Maintain an awareness of issues and topics which may have a negative impact on the organization and prepare risk mitigation strategies or responses to minimize risk. Ensure all publication and broadcast activities are developed in accordance with legislation, TSA policy and values and applicable Codes of Practice. About You: Professional and Technical Skills Required: Diploma of Business/Marketing/Public Relations preferred. Proven experience in working at an executive level. Ability to build relationships at an executive level. Proven media experience preferred. Proven experience in public speaking Proven experience in multi-media communications (CMS, social media, Print, Radio) preferred.
