Senior Director, Enterprise Security Architecture

The Senior Director of Enterprise Security Architecture is responsible for shaping and governing Optus' overall security architecture strategy, standards, and frameworks. Leading a team of Enterprise Security Architects across key domains including Identity & Access, Data Protection, Cloud Security, Network Security, and Risk & Resilience. The role ensures a unified and robust security architecture across both telecommunications' infrastructure and corporate IT environments.
In addition to chairing the Security Architecture Chapter, the Senior Director sets the enterprise-wide security architecture vision, develops a multi-year roadmap, and drives innovation through research and proof of concept initiatives. This role provides governance for major security programs, ensuring platform engineering teams deliver integrated, compliant, and scalable security solutions. Success requires deep cross domain expertise, strong architectural leadership, and the ability to influence at executive levels while balancing innovation, governance, and business enablement.
What You'll Do
* Lead the enterprise security architecture vision and multi‐year roadmap, setting standards and providing design authority for major security platforms.
* Ensure organisation‐wide architectural alignment through effective leadership of architects and key business stakeholders.
* Develop and maintain enterprise security architecture standards, including reference architectures, design patterns, and compliance‐aligned guidelines.
* Oversee and enforce architecture governance, including decision records, review processes, exception management, and cross‐domain compliance.
* Drive security research and proof‐of‐concept initiatives to evaluate emerging threats, technologies, and security paradigms.
* Lead innovation and influence senior executives, regulators, and cross‐functional leaders to align on architecture strategy and major technology decisions.
What makes you perfect for the role?
* Tertiary degree in a technical field (Master's preferred) plus industry certifications.
* 15+ years in information security, including senior security architecture leadership and managing architecture teams in complex, regulated environments.
* Hands‐on experience across identity, network, cloud, data protection, application security, threat detection, and modern security paradigms.
* Proven ability to establish architecture practices, standards, ADR governance, cross‐domain integration, and enterprise‐wide security architectures.
* Strategic thinker with strong influencing skills, exceptional communication, change leadership, and the ability to mentor and develop architecture talent.
