As a Senior Engineer this role will see you join a high impact Engineering team and provide engineering and technical support in the development and delivery of transmission substations projects. You will work with internal and external stakeholders, and Design and Construction Delivery Partners to ensure projects are developed and delivered in a cost-efficient way and to high standards of quality.
The Senior Engineer will be instrumental in the ongoing change in energy sector growth and provide guidance to the greater team in technical quality, technical compliance, performance, and value-for-money of all assets in the Contracted Asset Portfolio.
This role will be involved in the delivery of sharp techno-commercial solutions that will differentiate Ausnet’s commercial offering in the market as the energy partner of choice for renewable energy proponents and other market participants. The Senior Engineer will provide engineering and technical leadership to DFN’s Infrastructure teams through Project Development, Deal Execution, Preliminary Works, Project Delivery and Operation and Maintenance.
This role is primarily based in Southbank and is part of the Engineering, Infrastructure Operations & Delivery – Development & Future Networks.
This role will deliver real outcomes, including but not limited to:
o Deliver expert engineering and technical support into projects across AusNet’s DFN Infrastructure portfolio, applying technical knowledge across brownfield and greenfield initiatives to drive efficient design and construction outcomes
o Apply primary and secondary technical engineering knowledge to ensure efficient solutions can be reached on complex design projects
o Drive design excellence through active involvement in detailed design reviews, supporting Requests for Information, tender processes, quality monitoring, and decision-making in partnership with internal specialists and external design providers
o Promote innovation and cost-effectiveness by identifying opportunities for value engineering and non-standard solutions, supporting constructability, operability, maintainability, and safety in design
o Lead continuous improvement by assisting with the development and refining of standards, specifications, and engineering practices, including process innovations and adaptation to digital advancements supporting the energy transition
o Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, ensuring collaboration, compliance, and alignment with service levels, customer satisfaction, and company policies
o Mentor and support peers, contributing technical leadership and knowledge sharing to less experienced engineers
o Champion a safety-first, change-driven culture by advocating for WHS, cybersecurity, legislative compliance, and feedback-informed improvements aligned with AusNet’s values and health and safety targets
You don’t need to check every box; however, we are looking for a good combination of:
o 5+ years’ experience in Engineering within the utilities/energy industry and be a Registered Engineer in Victoria (RPEV) or undertaking
o Proven track record of project development and delivering technical design deliverables for successful projects
o Demonstrated knowledge of primary and/or secondary electrical equipment as used in Terminal Stations and Substations in respect to their design, performance, functionality, operation and maintenance including layout, site selection and technical reporting rated up to 500kV
o EHV Power Transformer experience would be an added advantage
o Proven capability to develop conceptual plans into feasibility designs and produce high quality design deliverables such as drawings and scope of works including management of schedules
o Detailed technical knowledge and extensive experience working in electricity networks engineering and substations/terminal station in project delivery and/or design roles
o Proven capability in development of concepts and/or delivery of designs
o Proven ability to build and grow relationships and partnerships across divisions within Ausnet as well as with external suppliers, customers and regulatory bodies
