Primary objective

The provision of medical leadership in Rural Primary Care, GP Liaison and a supporting role as Deputy Director of Medical Services,

to ensure the ongoing development and delivery of a high quality medical services across the Big Rivers Region (BRR).

Context statement

This full-time position comprises of two distinct roles, each around 0.5 FTE. The successful candidate will collaboratively deliver

both roles to provide an integrated service.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide oversight of the delivery of high-quality patient focused primary health care services across the rural clinics operated

by the Big River Region including effective recruitment, rostering, professional development and performance management of

medical staff. Ensuring an appropriate focus on chronic disease, preventative health, referrals and timely follow up of results.

1. Provide effective liaison and relationship building between the hospital and non-NTPS primary care clinics across the region.
2. Closely collaborate with the BRR Director Primary Health Care, NT Health agencies, regional health services and key

stakeholders to proactively lead the development of coordinated and collaborative primary care services.

4. Manage the primary care medical staffing costs, including budget preparation and management of resources.

5. Lead the design and delivery of continuing medical education, clinical governance - including investigations and review of

quality concerns, peer review and research for primary care medical staff.

6. Deputise for the Director of Medical Services and manage an agreed portfolio of quality improvement responsibilities across

the hospital.

7. Actively contribute as a member of the Katherine Hospital Medical Leadership Group.

1. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

10. Option to undertake clinical work as agreed with the DMS

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Australian citizen or permanent residency in Australia and registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

2. Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or Australian College of Rural and Remote

Medicine (ACRRM) or equivalent, with recognized advanced skills or experience in rural and remote medicine.

3. At least six years' experience in clinical practice with recent experience in primary care.

4. Demonstrated capacity to lead a multidisciplinary clinical team and provide coaching of medical staff.

1. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well in a team.
2. Ability to interact positively in a cross-cultural work environment.

Desirable

1. Experience in rural/remote medical practice and/or Indigenous health, with NT experience highly regarded.
