Where you’ll be working:
The Greater Newcastle Mental Health Service (GNMHS) Intake Team sit across our Newcastle and Charlestown offices, both close to stunning beaches, cafes and city centres. The GNMHS Intake team provide clinical triage, assessment, brief intervention and support for consumers and their families seeking timely mental health care. You will be required to navigate and refer across large multidisciplinary teams - facilitating access to high-quality, recovery-oriented mental health care in acute and complex community settings.
About the role:
This role will see you operate in fast-paced, time-critical environments, playing an integral part in safe transfer between teams, considered care planning and clear communication ensuring consumers and their families feel empowered and supported when accessing mental health care. The GNMHS Intake team offers great career progression opportunities with numerous senior roles, and regular collaboration with the other large teams of GNMHS and the broader Hunter New England Mental Health Network.
You will participate in team daily morning and afternoon huddles and three times weekly multidisciplinary review meetings to establish and monitor priority treatment plans which adhere to team process, policy and operating procedures. Our collaborative and supportive team approach allows clinicians to feel confident and supported in delivering time sensitive care plans for a range of presenting consumers. You will receive handovers, contribute to assessment of urgency of response, compile referral information, complete ISBARs, assess consumers, liaise with designated carers and stakeholders, refer to most suitable treating clinicians and teams.
The GNMHS Intake team benefits greatly from the rich and diverse experience of the individual team members and genuine collaboration and teamwork. The Intake team work closely with team managers, clinical coordinators, senior discipline leaders and psychiatry specialists to deliver tailored clinical plans and external referrals for our consumers presenting with unique needs.
You will be a valued member of local discipline practice groups, connected with targeted clinical supervision which caters to your professional development goals. The GNMHS offers a comprehensive three month orientation with an accompanying mentor.
About you:
You are an experienced mental health clinician with strong triage and assessment capability and a passion for delivering consumer-focused, recovery-oriented care. You are confident working within complex systems, whilst supporting consumers through acute mental health care and referring to sustainable community managed services.
You will bring:
* Experience in acute community mental health service delivery
* Demonstrated ability to triage, assess, and refer to a range of multidisciplinary teams
* Knowledge of mental health team criteria and clinical models of care
* Awareness of therapeutic and treatment modalities on offer by community mental health services
* Confidence compiling and delivering handover of ISBARS in pressured, time-critical environments
* A collaborative and transparent communication style with the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders
Requirements:
* Must hold a qualification in one of the following: Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Social Work, Nutrition and Dietetics which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association / provisional or general registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
* Eligibility to drive in NSW and interstate and the willingness to travel in the course of employment.
