Midwifery Specialist
The Clinical Midwifery Specialist (CMS) plays a vital role in the healthcare system, employing advanced clinical skills and exercising extended autonomy of decision making.
* Oversee case management of women receiving care in a designated maternity unit.
* Mentor and support midwives to provide continuity of care that is focused on Aboriginal women, women having an Aboriginal baby, and their partners and families through a caseload model of care for women and their babies.
* Function within policies and procedures under the direction of a Midwifery Unit Manager.
* A post-registration qualification and a minimum three years full-time equivalent post-graduate qualification experience in midwifery continuity of care/caseload/MGP practice.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultures and established links with local communities.
* Proven competence in advanced midwifery skills: perineal suturing/cannulation/maternal and neonatal resuscitation/speculum examination/comprehensive assessment of the newborn.
* A current driver's license.
* Demonstrated understanding of broader Aboriginal health issues, including unique medical, physical, social, and emotional issues in Aboriginal maternal and infant health.
* Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
* Demonstrated mentorship and clinical teaching skills.
