About the role
The Junior Accountant supports the finance team by assisting with accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, and financial record-keeping.
This role is an excellent opportunity for recent accounting or finance graduates. It provides hands-on experience across core accounting functions, exposure to ERP system implementation, and the chance to build a strong foundation in financial processes. The position is designed to develop your technical skills, professional knowledge, and confidence in a practical workplace setting.
Key Responsibilities:
* Process and reconcile accounts payable and receivable transactions, including invoices, payments, and customer account follow-ups.
* Assist with monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial records.
* Support preparation of the company’s taxation obligations, including BAS, GST, FBT, Payroll Tax, and Income Tax under supervision.
* Contribute to maintaining payroll accounting records and assisting with payroll reconciliations.
* Support the ERP system implementation by assisting with testing, troubleshooting, and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for finance processes.
* Support inventory integrity by assisting with reconciliations, stock control, and resolving discrepancies with the stock controller and lead accountant.
* Prepare and provide financial documentation required for external audits and support the audit process.
* Collaborate with finance team members and other departments to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
* Provide general finance administration and contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives.
Key Skills & Attributes
* Bachelor’s degree (or currently studying) in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
* Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (pivot tables, lookups an advantage).
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial records.
* Good organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Willingness to learn and adapt to new systems, including ERP platforms.
* Team player with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Experience
* Up to 1 year of accounting, bookkeeping, or finance-related experience (including internships or work placements).
* Exposure to accounts payable, accounts receivable, or basic reconciliation processes (desirable but not essential).
* Experience using Excel or other spreadsheet tools.
