About The Role
In this role as a Senior Genetic Counsellor, your day-to-day will be diverse and meaningful. You will provide specialist genetic counselling services to individuals and families at risk of hereditary cancer, actively participate in multidisciplinary teams, supervise students, and share expertise across Hunter New England. Beyond clinical care, you will drive service improvements, contribute to team projects, and help shape innovative models of care. You will also support the Principal Genetic Counsellor and Service Manager with planning and development of the Cancer Genetics Network.
This role helps shape the future of cancer genetics services and impact people’s lives when they need it most. It is suited to those passionate about patient-focused care with strong cancer genetics counselling experience.

The Hunter Family Cancer service is the heart of innovation in cancer genetics for our district. You will join a multidisciplinary team of Genetic Counsellors, an Intake Officer, an Administration Officer, and a Data Manager. The Waratah Campus provides access to a broad network of health professionals across the Hunter New England region, and NSW Health’s Cancer Services at large.

About You
You bring extensive experience in client-focused genetic counselling for individuals and families at risk of cancer, with the ability to provide specialist consultation across regions or clinical networks. You have strong communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated through collaboration with health professionals, community groups, and agencies. Your clinical expertise includes developing care plans for complex cases, using tools like TrackGene and risk prediction models. You are self-motivated, capable of managing competing priorities, and maintain strong therapeutic and professional relationships. You have significant experience supervising staff and students and demonstrate clinical leadership within multidisciplinary teams.
Requirements
* Must have an undergraduate degree in a non-nursing, non-medical discipline and hold a postgraduate qualification in genetic counselling with Part II certification from the Human Genetics Society of Australasia
* Extensive postgraduate clinical experience in cancer genetic counselling
* Current driver’s licence with capacity and willingness to travel to NSW Health business and service locations throughout NSW (overnight stays possible)
