Your work environment
Newmont's Cadia Valley mine operation is situated in New South Wales, 25 kilometres from Orange and 250 kilometres west of Sydney. Cadia produces gold doré bars from a gravity circuit and gold‑rich copper concentrates from a flotation circuit. The operation includes the Cadia East Mine which is globally renowned for its use of block caving, a large‑scale underground mining method.

About the role
As a Technician, Exploration, you will provide technical and field‑based support across a range of exploration activities. You'll work closely with geoscientists, drilling contractors and site‑based teams to ensure core samples, geological data and field operations are completed safely, consistently and to a high standard.
Responsibilities include
* Implement drill core handling, cutting, sampling and geotechnical logging procedures
* Gather geotechnical data in line with established SOPs
* Collect XRF, hyperspectral, density and other rock property data from core and chips in line with SOPs
* Administer, store and retrieve core samples following quality‑controlled procedures
* Photograph core samples using standardised processes to ensure accuracy and consistency
* Follow procedures for core disposal, reuse and operational activities to prevent environmental impacts
* Maintain core in an organised manner to enable efficient retrieval of archives core for research and analysis by internal teams and external partners
* Assist with surface disturbance planning, earthworks supervision and rehabilitation monitoring
* Engage with private landholders as part of land access processes
* Liaise with contractors as required (drilling crews, heavy equipment operators)
* Conduct safety inspections and ensure adherence to exploration and site safety requirements
* Provide support to Cadia Brownfields, Air Core and RC drilling programs as required
* Assist with geochemical surveys and sampling programs
* Support geophysical field operations where required

You'll be great in this role if you have
* Experience in Geology, Exploration, Fieldwork or Geochemical sampling programs is beneficial but not essential
* A current HRW Forklift licence – highly regarded
* Sound knowledge of computing systems for data collection
* A strong commitment to safety and procedural compliance
* Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* An ability to positively engage with staff and contractors
* Good organisational ability and attention to detail
* A proactive, flexible and solutions‑focused approach
This permanent residential position will be based in Orange, New South Wales and will suit applicants currently living in Orange or near surrounds in Australia.
