Position Information

The Senior Psychologist, Education coordinates and professionally supervises a team of school counsellors/school psychologists to deliver high quality psychological services to schools. They work closely with schools, other members of educational services teams and agencies to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes.

The Senior Psychologist, Education provides professional leadership in the delivery of psychological services to school communities and has a key leadership role as part of the networked specialist centres.

John Palmer Public School is a large, dynamic, and student‐centred school located in The Ponds, a rapidly growing area in North West Sydney. The school has enrolment of 910 students, 68% from English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD). The school has strong community links, and the learning focuses on developing each individual through the values of Integrity, Excellence, and Innovation, which are deeply embedded in the school culture.

The school's facilities have recently been upgraded. These finished facilities now include a hub of three support classes and an early intervention class, state‐of‐the‐art classrooms and library, enhancing the learning environment and resources available to all students.

Specific Selection Criteria

* High level knowledge and skills in the provision of psychological assessment, counselling and evidence‐based interventions within a school context.
* Demonstrated capacity to lead, clinically supervise and professionally develop school counsellors/school psychologists, including those working towards registration as a psychologist.
* Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders to support the learning and wellbeing of students, including students with complex and diverse needs.
* Demonstrated ability to lead and implement Department of Education priorities and initiatives within the school counselling service and in response to serious incidents.

General Selection Criteria

* Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.
* Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
* Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.
* Well‐developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.
* Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
* Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.

Conditions

* Be a registered or provisionally registered psychologist, or eligible for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.
* Ability and willingness to travel between worksites. Must have a valid unrestricted provisional or full driver's licence with the ability to drive oneself.
* This position is under the Teachers award (Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2024). To be eligible to apply, you must have an unconditional, full approval to teach or have eligibility to apply for an approval to teach. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
