The duties of a police officer 
As a general duties police officer, no two days are the same. General duties officers are at the forefront of Victoria Police and undertake a variety of duties on shift including: 
- working with the community 
- preventing anti-social behaviour 
- promoting public safety 
- enforcing road safety

About you 
There is no single attribute, skill, or experience that Victoria Police looks for. It’s your overall suitability for the role that matters. Here’s what we look for: 
- people who are 18 years or older 
- strong communication skills (verbal and written) 
- healthy level of fitness 
- good character and reputation 
- Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents (New Zealand citizens must have a Special Category visa or the ability to obtain one to apply) 
- an Australian or New Zealand driver licence, with transfer to a Victorian licence before commencing employment (probationary licence is acceptable) 
Salary and benefits 
We offer job security and a range of great perks including flexible rostering, on-the-job training and professional development. Once sworn in as a constable, you will be paid a starting salary of $81,612 plus allowances per annum. There are shift penalties and overtime payments available, and as you advance in the ranks, so does your wage. Benefits include up to nine weeks recreation leave, 16 weeks parental leave, study leave, long-service leave and additional superannuation. During training at the Victoria Police Academy (12 weeks), you will be paid a salary of $59,405 per annum. Specialise after a period of time and receive training and support to progress through the ranks. Salary and benefits are per the current Victoria Police Enterprise Agreement.
