Queensland Parliament's Committee Office provides high-quality analysis, administrative and procedural support, and facilitates stakeholder engagement for parliamentary committees. These committees scrutinize executive government actions, including proposed legislation and public expenditure, and contribute to policy development. They work on matters of public importance in Queensland, such as youth justice, environmental law, regional industry development, transport, human rights, and legislative principles. Supporting stakeholder engagement in parliamentary democracy is central to our work. As part of the leadership team within the Committee Office, each Committee Secretary leads a smaller team to:
* Support committee consideration of proposed legislation (Bills) for policy implications, compliance with legislative principles, human rights, and lawfulness of subordinate legislation;
* Assist committees in examining estimates, public accounts, public works, and departmental performance, assessing integrity, economy, efficiency, and effectiveness;
* Support inquiries related to their portfolio areas or issues referred by the Legislative Assembly or under an Act;
* Advise committees on parliamentary law, practice, and procedure; and
* Plan and support hearings, consultations, site visits, prepare briefings and reports, and communicate with stakeholders in a high-profile environment.
To succeed in this role, you need:
* A relevant tertiary qualification;
* Proven ability to research, analyze, evaluate complex problems, and develop strategic recommendations;
* Excellent writing skills;
* Experience leading and managing small teams;
* Strong interpersonal skills, including facilitating consultations;
* High attention to detail, accuracy, and professionalism;
* Knowledge of parliamentary processes and procedures, especially related to committees, or the ability to acquire such knowledge quickly.
We offer a three-year contracted position and a 12-month temporary position.
