Are you curious about a career in early childhood education and want to try it out first? Are you a parent looking to return to work but need the school holidays off, or maybe you're thinking about retirement but not quite ready to stop working?

Being an Additional Assistant with Uniting might be the perfect role for you. You don't need qualifications – just compassion, patience, and a willingness to support children and educators in a warm, welcoming environment.

About the program

The Kindergarten Inclusion Support (KIS) program helps create inclusive environments for all children, including those with disabilities, developmental delays, or complex medical needs.

Uniting is the largest provider of Additional Assistants in Victoria and provides placements in both Uniting and non-Uniting Kindergarten programs across the following local government areas:

South Western Victoria - Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melbourne, Melton, Moonee Valley and Wyndham

North Western Victoria -Banyule, Darebin, Hume, Merri-bek, Nillumbik, Whittlesea and Yarra

Gippsland - Bass Coast, Baw Baw, East Gippsland, South Gippsland and Wellington

Wimmera -Hindmarsh, Horsham Rural City, Northern Grampians, West Wimmera and Yarriambiack

About the role

KIS additional assistants work as part of the service team delivering the kindergarten program and share everyday team responsibilities. They work across the whole room and help kindergarten teachers and educators to provide fun and inclusive activities for all children.

It's a job with lots of variety, from assisting with play-based learning activities to helping with daily care routines and maintaining a safe and clean environment. It does involve lifting, carrying, and moving children and objects, as well as working at lower levels, such as on the floor or using small furniture.

A kindergarten placement typically involves 7.5 to 15 hours per week during the school term. The hours vary between 8:15 am and 5:00 pm, depending on each kindergarten's service schedule.

Our Additional Assistants are provided a comprehensive induction and access to ongoing supervision and support from the Kindergarten Inclusion Support team.
