Find out more about us and our purpose .Your opportunityThe Senior Practitioner is a key leader within the Townsville Youth Foyer, a supportive and vibrant community that empowers young people aged 16 to 25 on their journey to independence. The Foyer offers more than safe accommodation—it delivers a holistic program across six essential service areas: education and training, employment, health and well-being, social engagement, civic participation, and independent living skills. Backed by Mission Australia, The Foyer Foundation, and community partners, the service is grounded in the Advantage Thinking Framework and Human Services Quality Framework (HSQF).Working closely with the Program Manager and team, the Senior Practitioner oversees the development of tailored support plans for each young person, guiding them toward achieving their goals. This role involves intake and transition support, coordination of group activities, linking with external services, case management, and addressing complex cases in collaboration with team leads. The Senior Practitioner also helps foster a culturally safe environment, builds positive relationships with young people and their networks, and actively contributes to service development and compliance with quality standards.It’s a hands-on, people-focused role that blends leadership, advocacy, and care—making a real difference in the lives of young people every day.Your key responsibilities will be to:Assist in the provision of all 6 services including: client intake, transitions, activity planning, linking with support agencies and other routineWork with young people and Pathways Specialist to engage in relevant sector agencies/programsBuild positive peer and adult relationships with young people by assisting them to attend appointments and programsWork with young people to reconnect with family and kinEnsure Confidentiality, privacy, and professional boundaries are maintainedConduct, co-ordinate or initiate group case management sessions where necessary and appropriate, such as living skills, budgeting etc.Complex cases are reviewed and presented to Senior Practitioner/Program Manager and/or case conferencing, collaborationParticipate actively in community network meetingsContribute to the effective functioning and development of the service through involvement in culturally appropriate projects, contribution to team forums, and training and development of staffRequirements for successRelevant tertiary qualifications with relevant experience in a similar rolePrevious experience in a leadership positionDemonstrated ability to deliver service outcomes compliantlyDemonstrated ability to guide and deliver services that are informed and based on HSQF and Advantage Thinking FrameworksStrong listening, engagement and communication (written and verbal) skillsAbility to maintain strong professional boundariesBefore starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.Our culture Our innovative and inclusive culture will ensure you feel valued at Mission Australia as you help Australians in need and develop in your career.We prioritise the safety and wellbeing of everyone, both within our team and the individuals we serve.We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive working environment.
