About the Role

The Chef Instructor operates within a commercial kitchen to produce products and services to support the Banksia Hill Detention Centre operations. The position provides the production of meals and ensures the kitchen areas comply with Work Health and Safety Regulations 2022 and Food Safety guidelines. The position provides on the job instruction, accredited training and supervision to detainees who work in this area.

Pool information: This recruitment pool will run for a period of twelve (12) months and may be used to fill ongoing fixed-term and permanent opportunities.

Responsibilities

The Chef Instructor operates within a commercial kitchen to produce products and services to support the Banksia Hill Detention Centre operations. The position provides the production of meals and ensures the kitchen areas comply with Work Health and Safety Regulations 2022 and Food Safety guidelines. The position provides on the job instruction, accredited training and supervision to detainees who work in this area.


Eligibility and Qualifications

A Successful Applicant Must

* Be willing to undertake training applicable to the role though the Department's Training Academy.
* Be willing to undertake skill set(s) and vocational competencies to meet industry standards as trainers and/or assessors (if applicable).
* Possess a current valid manual class "C" motor vehicle driving licence.
* Possess a current valid Provide First Aid (HLTAID003) accreditation (or equivalent e.g. Senior First Aid) received from an accredited training provider with a minimum of 12 months validity remaining.

All employees are required to undergo employment screening, which includes a National Criminal History Check and other checks that may be relevant to the position requirements.

Permanent positions – To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.

Qualifications - To be eligible for appointment, applicants must possess the following qualifications:

* Certificate III in Hospitality (with Commercial Cookery or Catering or Kitchen Operations speciality) and/or
* Certificate III in Commercial Cookery and/or
* Certificate III in Catering Operations and/or Trade Pathway (Apprenticeship)

WWC positions – In accordance with the National Child Safety Principles, people who work directly with children and young people, you must have a current Working with Children Check or be able to successfully apply for one to be eligible for appointment to this position.

Pool Recruitment – This pool will be open for a period of twelve (12) months from the day after the breach of standard claim period closes. Permanent and fixed term, full time may be offered as vacancies arise; however, an appointment is not guaranteed.
