About the role
As the Investment Director – Equities, you will play a pivotal role within QIC's State Investments team and act as a key strategic partner to the Head of Public Markets. You will take primary responsibility for the oversight and monitoring of the external public equity program on behalf of the Queensland State Government and other significant institutional clients.
This is a role for an accomplished equities investment professional who thrives at the intersection of investment strategy, portfolio design, manager selection, and multi stakeholder influence. Beyond overseeing the external equity program, you will shape thinking across broader public markets research, portfolio implementation, and strategic asset allocation considerations.
Key responsibilities:
* Lead the end-to-end process of identifying, evaluating, selecting, and monitoring external equity managers across domestic and international markets.
* Contribute to the development and evolution of equity strategies and broader SAA work.
* Influence portfolio design, rebalancing, and implementation decisions.
* Oversee largescale transition events, liquidity management, and operational execution to ensure high integrity portfolio outcomes.
* Lead negotiations on investment terms, mandates, and legal documentation, representing QIC with commercial credibility and authority.
* Prepare sophisticated client materials and insights (including topical fundamental research), support attribution analysis, and clearly articulate portfolio positioning and performance drivers.
* Maintain a deep and current understanding of global equity markets, investment research, and responsible investment developments, integrating these insights into manager and portfolio decisions.
* Partner widely across internal teams to advance research initiatives and ensure investment perspectives are communicated effectively and consistently to stakeholders.
About you
You are an experienced investment professional with deep expertise in public equities and a passion for delivering exceptional outcomes for clients. You bring a balance of analytical strength, commercial acumen, and collaborative leadership.
You will thrive in this role if you have:
* Extensive experience in equity manager research, selection, and oversight.
* Tertiary qualifications in Economics, Finance, Commerce, Actuarial or other relevant field.
* Strong understanding of global markets, equity strategies, and company specific analysis.
* Proven capability in producing high-quality written analysis and client communication.
* Demonstrated ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships with credibility and influence.
* The ability to mentor others and contribute positively to team culture.
* Strong alignment with responsible investing principles and a genuine interest in market trends and innovation.
