About the Position
The Head of Financial Accounting plays a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the month-end process, ensuring adherence to agreed timelines and deadlines.
* Conduct thorough reviews and analyses of financial results, including variance analysis and management commentary.
* Manage and monitor the monthly cash flow, maintaining a proactive approach to liquidity and budgeting.
* Review and finalize reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, guaranteeing accuracy and completeness.
* Deliver timely and accurate Departmental Hearings Reports (DH Reports), incorporating monthly results, forecasts, and budgets.
* Prepare and submit annual statutory accounts, along with external reports such as MHE and ABS surveys.
* Oversee external audit processes, contribute to internal audits, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
* Ensure taxation deliverables meet relevant legislative standards and deadlines, focusing on BAS and FBT submissions.
* Effectively lead the financial accounting team, promoting efficient operations and meeting deliverables.
About You
We are seeking an experienced professional with:
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in finance and accounting, preferably CPA or CA membership.
* Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively to drive outcomes and solve complex problems.
* Proven ability to effectively lead a team, striving for continuous process improvement and excellence.
* Proficiency in using accounting systems and software packages, including Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with Magiq and Microsoft D365 is highly regarded.
* Experience in completing month-end close processes and internal and external reporting.
* Background in providing coordinated accounting and financial support within public sector environments.
* Knowledge of audit processes and compliance reporting in the public sector.
