Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics - Lower Limb Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Surgery
This is a permanent full-time post for a Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics with a special interest in lower limb hip and knee arthroplasty surgery, and soft tissue knee surgery.
The successful applicant will be expected to develop their subspecialty interest and complement the sub-specialty interests of the existing consultants, meeting the needs of the local health economy.
We are looking for a highly motivated Medic with clear vision, initiative, flexibility, and the ability to lead and coordinate the team.
The post requires evidence of achievement of competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards, including good clinical care, maintaining good medical practice, good relationships and communication with patients, good working relationships with colleagues, good teaching and training, professional behaviour and probity, and delivery of good acute clinical care.
Main Duties
* Providing advice on complex clinical problems based on interdisciplinary principles.
* Providing clinical care to patients referred to them.
* Working with colleagues to provide effective clinical leadership for all staff in the service.
* Contributing to and participating in the development of services.
* Take an active part in continuing medical education, including providing clinical training for junior staff and undergraduate students.
* Participate actively in audit and will be encouraged to pursue research and education activities.
The successful applicant would be expected to take part in the MDT meetings on a weekly basis should their specialist interest deem this necessary.
There is an on-call commitment, 1:10 when the full compliment of Consultants are recruited.

Person Specification
We are looking for a highly motivated Medic with the following qualifications, knowledge and experience:
* Full GMC registration and on Specialist Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training in Orthopaedics (CCT) at time of interview.
* MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
* FRCS (Orth)
* Valid ATLS provider status (as applicable).
* Success in intercollegiate speciality examination or overseas equivalent.
* Postgraduate thesis.
We require evidence of the following skills:
* Language Skills: Demonstrate skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues.
* Clinical Knowledge & Expertise: Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems.
* Clinical Knowledge & Expertise: Demonstrates the necessary range, depth and breadth of competencies specified in the Acute Orthopaedic curriculum and applying to this post.
* Clinical Knowledge & Expertise: Fellowship of similar advanced clinical experience in appropriate area of upper limb surgery.
* Research Skills: Demonstrates ability to undertake robust audit / research within team structure within the last 3 years.
* Teaching: Evidence of appropriate teaching experience within the last 3 years.
* Communication Skills: Demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication & capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation.
* Problem Solving & Decision Making: Capacity to use logical/lateral thinking to solve problems/make decisions.
* Managing Others & Team Involvement: Capacity to work effectively with others.
* Empathy & Sensitivity: Capacity to take in others' perspectives and treat others with understanding;
