Staff Specialist - Geriatric Medicine Position
The Department of Health, specifically the Hospitals & Primary Care - Hospitals Sth unit at Royal Hobart Hospital in Tasmania, is seeking a suitably qualified Staff Specialist in Geriatric Medicine.
About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team of 14 geriatricians who provide care for older adults with complex medical conditions. Our department has a strong focus on education and research, with opportunities to pursue your interests and develop new skills.
We offer a comprehensive range of services, including acute older persons' care, subacute care, geriatric oncology, continence and pain management, and rehabilitation. We also have a dedicated aged care clinic nurse and a close relationship with the Community Rehabilitation Unit.
Clinics include memory, falls and balance, movement disorders, and telehealth consultations. There are opportunities to participate in regional outreach clinics through TAZREACH.
You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including specialists, registrars, interns, and resident medical officers, to deliver high-quality patient care. We foster a culture of collaboration, respect, and open communication.

The Royal Hobart Hospital is a tertiary hospital serving a population of 300,000. As the major clinical teaching and research centre in southern Tasmania, we collaborate with the University of Tasmania and other institutions.
Our hospital provides a range of specialist services, including emergency medicine, surgery, and mental health. We have a strong commitment to education and research, with ongoing training programs for medical professionals and students.
About the Team
We are a well-established team of experienced geriatricians, led by Dr Andrea Wilson, Acting Head of Department. You will be part of a close-knit group that values teamwork, camaraderie, and professional growth.
As a Staff Specialist in Geriatric Medicine, you will be responsible for providing expert care to patients with complex medical needs. You will also contribute to the development of departmental policies and procedures, as well as participating in educational activities and research projects.

Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following requirements:
* Holds specialist registration; or
* Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway; or
* Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the specialty.
