Melbourne
Northcote
Posted: 7 May
Offer description

Chef Lisa Goodwin-Allen is renowned for her fantastic training culture and is incredibly passionate about developing talent that will help create a path for successful careers. Having risen through the ranks at Northcote, taking over the reins at the age of just 23, Lisa is an inspiration to those wanting to make an impact in the hospitality industry. When she was awarded The 2022 CATEY Chef of the Year award on 5th July, the judges described her as "an incredibly hardworking individual who embraces, showcases and develops young talent; a great, inspiring role model and shining light."

Over the two-year programme, apprentices will have the opportunity to gain paid work experience, earning a minimum of £7 per hour, which is a 45% increase on the Government’s recommended national average of £4.81, and will receive the same benefits as Northcote employees.

After successfully completing the apprenticeship, all students will be offered a permanent contract as a Northcote chef, and the scheme will continue to invest in their development, offering future promotional opportunities. Successful apprentices will receive a level 2 or 3 qualification in Professional Cookery.

Offering flexibility for its employees, Northcote’s apprentices work a 40-hour week, set times, 9.00 am – 5.00 pm, five days a week, as well as a number of benefits including:

* Up to 50% staff discount on food and beverage throughout the Stafford Collection
* Discounts with Pride of Britain hotels
* Support in entering top industry competitions

Apprentices join a talented brigade including some fantastic Northcote success stories…

Northcote’s Head Chef Danny Young began his career in the Northcote kitchen as an apprentice at the age of 16. Danny worked his way up the ranks following his 4-year apprenticeship. The talented chef won the Craft Guild of Chefs National Young Chef of the Year 2018 and the Acorn Award 2021, awarded to just 30 people each year who show excellence in the chosen field of hospitality.

Matthew Marriott began his Northcote apprenticeship straight from school following competition success. Matthew was mentored by our own Danny Young during the Springboard Future Chef competition. This contest aims to inspire the next generation of young chefs from age 13 upwards. Matthew reached the regional finals of the competition, which paved his way to begin a career at Northcote.
