Key Relationships
All Dance Tutors are responsible to the Principal. On a day to day
basis, Dance Tutors are responsible to the Head of Dance and work
closely with all Dance Department staff.
Position Objective and Overview
Westminster School's performance and reputation are enhanced by the quality and engagement in
Performing Arts across the school, the skill development demonstrated by dance students, and the
contribution to the School's culture and improvement initiatives made by its staff.
Key Responsibilities:
* Maintain positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
* Maintain a dance learning environment which is stimulating, focused and engaging, and which
reflects the School's values and ethos.
* Comply with the School's policies and procedures.
* Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive and enjoyable dance lessons which cater to the diverse needs
of all students including high achievers and those with career aspirations within the Dance
Industry.
* Effectively tutor students using appropriate instructing and learning strategies.
* Choreograph dance works across a range of dance genres including contemporary, tap, jazz,
ballet, acro. and/or hip-hop.
* Provide constructive feedback and ongoing encouragement to support student progress.
* Maintain a safe, organised, and well-presented studio environment.
* Ensure dance works are performance ready and liaise with Dance Faculty to finalise production
elements (music, lighting, costuming etc.) for quality execution of School performances.
* Maintain professional learning regarding safe dance practices, current trends and evolving
techniques within the dance industry.
* Attend termly Dance Faculty Meeting and collaborate effectively with dance tutors and the
Performing Arts team to enhance the overall dance program.
* Assist with Westminster School performances.
Key Selection Criteria: Qualifications, Skills and Experience
* Professional Dance Qualification: Certificate III in Dance or above
* Demonstrated high level skills in establishing effective working relationships with staff, students, and
parents
* Experience in dance and education, preferably in a school setting
* Strong technical dance knowledge with the ability to demonstrate skills
* Experienced in creating high quality dance works across a range of dance genres
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and inspire students of all ages and abilities
* Experienced in supporting students in a competition setting (Hip Hop)

* An excellent practitioner with a successful record of working with adolescents and children,
preferably in a school or other educational environment.
* Organised and flexible, with the ability to prioritise workloads, manage multiple tasks and be
proactive.
* Able to demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
* Flexible in approach to working hours.
* Positive approach, with a personable and professional manner.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Demonstrate attention to detail and critical and creative thinking skills
* Ability to apply constructive feedback for ongoing professional growth
Safety and Wellbeing:
All staff must
* Take reasonable care of, and cooperate with actions taken to protect, the health and safety of both
themselves and others.
* Report all accidents, incidents and hazards to the Head of Dance as soon as is practicable.
* Read and abide by all WHS and School policies.
Conditions of Employment:
* All applicants must be eligible to work in Australia.
* All staff must satisfy child protection screening and adhere to Westminster's Child Safety and
Wellbeing policy which includes holding a current Working With Children Clearance.
* Maintain a current Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care (RRHAN-
EC) – Masterclass.
* Current Certificate in Provide First Aid in an Education and Care setting.
