So, what does a
Diesel Mechanic
(also known as Heavy Duty Diesel Fitter) at Cement Australia do?
Over the duration of your apprenticeship, you will eventually be able to:
Get hands-on experience working on a wide range of mobile equipment – from light vehicles and forklifts to big gear like dump trucks, loaders, and excavators
Carry out regular servicing and preventive maintenance to keep equipment running at its best
Learn how to use a variety of tools – from basic hand tools to powered tools and equipment
Troubleshoot and fix breakdowns using problem-solving and fault-finding skills
Use modern maintenance software (CMMS) to manage work orders and keep accurate records
Be part of daily toolbox talks and safety checks before work starts
Build your skills to work both independently and as part of a supportive team
Always put safety first and learn how to apply safe work practices in every task
What You'll Bring
You have completed or are currently completing a minimum Year 10 with passes in Maths and English
You ideally are enrolled in or have completed Cert I or II Engineering
You have good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team
You have a genuine interest in your chosen trade
You bring a positive attitude, a love of learning and a willingness to tackle whatever comes your way

Full time work for the duration of your apprenticeship, paid under an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement
As a first-year apprentice, you would commence the program around late January 2026
