The Opportunity
Lithgow City Council has an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Carpenterto join their team in Lithgow, NSW.
Council are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is passionate about carpentry and building maintenance.
The Apprentice Carpenter will work to assist the trades' team in undertaking general maintenance activities in the areas of carpentry while undertaking a Certificate III in Carpentry to support the technical skills gained on the job as an apprentice. The position will work to carry out a range of duties, as a team member or individually, in an effective manner and to ensure a positive image of Council.
More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):
* To successfully undertake vocational education and apply learning in the workplace as appropriate
* To perform duties under the supervision of trades staff, working cooperatively within a team environment
* To perform all activities in accordance with Council's Work Health and Safety policies and procedures
* To work as part of a team to ensure that the required tasks are performed in the best possible way
* To operate plant and equipment consistent with manufactures' specifications, ensuring that work is undertaken in the most effective manner
* To drive Council vehicles in a safe manner and maintain a courteous attitude to other road users
* Maintain a focus on quality customer service that is responsive to the needs of the Council
* Ensure compliance with legislative, industrial and Council's policies and procedures in the areas of Equal Employment Opportunity, Work Health and Safety and Environmental protection
About you
The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:
* Undertaking or willingness to undertake vocational learning in a relevant trade's area
* Record of School Achievement (RoSA) with satisfactory academic results
* Demonstrated ability to work in a flexible manner and part of a team.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
* Be self-motivated and show initiative in the delegated areas of responsibility
* A willingness to comply with all council's policies and procedures
* Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of Work Health and Safety
* Demonstrated commitment to honesty and integrity
In addition, an ideal candidate would have:
* Class C Driver's Licence
* Familiarity with the Lithgow local government area
* Current First Aid Certificate.
Salary and Benefits
