Estimator – Construction (Government, Education & Commercial)
Gregory Hills, NSW $120K–$150K + Super (flexible)
Projects: $100K–$1M (education, council, residential & fit-out)
If you know how to win NSW government and education tenders, read on.
We're working with a growing Sydney-based construction contractor delivering a diverse mix of government, education, residential, and commercial fit‐out projects. Their pipeline includes school upgrades, council works, bathroom refurbishments, retaining structures, and small‐to‐mid scale builds across Sydney.
They're now looking for an Estimator who can not only price work—and actively help win it, particularly across education and government sectors.
What you'll be doing
* Prepare competitive tenders ($100K–$1M) across construction and fit‐out projects
* Manage 3–10 live bids at any one time
* Complete detailed take‐offs, pricing, and cost planning using Excel
* Engage subcontractors and suppliers to build competitive packages
* Develop tender methodology, submissions, and supporting documentation
* Review drawings, scopes, and specs to identify risks, gaps, and opportunities
* Support tender handover into project delivery teams
What you'll bring
* Proven estimating experience in construction / fit‐out / NSW projects
* Strong track record with NSW government and/or education tenders (essential edge)
* Ability to read drawings, quantify works, and price accurately under time pressure
* Strong Excel capability and commercial awareness
* Confident communicator with subcontractors and suppliers
* Detail-focused, deadline-driven, and commercially sharp
Why this role stands out
* Strong pipeline of repeat education and council work
* Consistent tender volume — typically 6+ active bids at any time
* Healthy historical win rate (~30%) with scope to influence improvement
* Support from admin function so you focus on estimating, not paperwork
* Flexible working arrangements once trust is established
What success looks like
* Well‐priced, compliant tenders submitted on time
* Increased win rate through stronger methodology and pricing strategy
* Accurate cost planning protecting project margins
* Strong supplier and subcontractor relationships that improve competitiveness
The reality
It's about understanding how NSW government and education work is won—and consistently putting together bids that get selected.
