Empirical Solutions is seeking a highly skilled Production Engineer (L3) to join our Waterfront Delivery Team supporting major surface fleet upgrade and maintenance activities. This is an onsite, hands-on engineering role providing assurance, coordination, and specialist advice across high-tempo maritime sustainment and upgrade programs.
You will work closely with shipyard partners, engineering teams, project managers, and operational stakeholders to ensure maintenance, upgrade, and integration activities are performed safely, effectively, and in alignment with strategic project objectives.
About the Role
As a Production Engineer, you will be a key interface between engineering, project management, and the shipyard workforce. You will support planning and delivery of thousands of maintenance and upgrade tasks, ensuring technical accuracy, engineering compliance, and continuous improvement across waterfront operations.
Your primary responsibilities include onsite production assurance, process optimisation, and technical oversight to ensure successful delivery of complex maintenance periods.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide onsite production engineering support for major maritime maintenance and upgrade activities
* Deliver technical assurance for upkeep, update, and upgrade tasks undertaken at the shipyard
* Coordinate and collaborate with the broader engineering and delivery enterprise to ensure outcomes align with project requirements
* Offer subject matter expertise on production engineering, processes, and best-practice delivery methods
* Support continuous improvement initiatives across production and waterfront delivery workflows
* Analyse engineering and production data sets and provide insights to project managers and leadership
* Assist with identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving technical issues affecting production or delivery
* Maintain effective relationships with shipyard stakeholders, engineering authorities, and project managers
* Contribute to technical reporting, risk assessments, and progress documentation
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
* Bachelor of Engineering (or equivalent qualification recognised under the Washington Accord)
* Experience in systems engineering, production engineering, or maritime engineering environments
* Demonstrated experience supporting complex maintenance, upgrade, or integration activities
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and production documentation
* Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise across technical and non-technical stakeholder groups
* Practical experience identifying and resolving engineering and production issues
* Ability to work effectively onsite within a fast-paced production environment
* NV1 or higher security clearance
Desirable:
* Experience working in Defence maritime sustainment or shipyard environments
* Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)
* Familiarity with configuration management, engineering change processes, or production planning systems
* Experience supporting project managers with engineering insights and reporting
