Aboriginal Child and Family Consultant – Sonder

Sonder is an inclusive, not-for-profit organisation that has been providing better quality health and support services to the South Australian community since 1993. We support thousands of people each year to access services across seven key domains – Mental Health, Aboriginal Health, Alcohol and/or other Drugs, Employment, Community Health, Disability, and Homelessness.


About the Role

Join our team as an Aboriginal Child and Family Support Consultant and make a real impact in the early years of a child's life. In this culturally grounded role, you'll provide safe, family-centred, and trauma-informed support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families. You'll help strengthen connections to culture, kinship, Country, and community while guiding families through health, social, and emotional wellbeing systems. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you'll contribute to holistic, culturally led care that empowers families and supports brighter, healthier futures.


Experience Requirements

* Experience supporting Aboriginal children and families in community, health, or education settings.
* Experience working with families experiencing complex needs, including trauma and grief.
* Experience in advocacy, case coordination, or family support roles.
* Experience in out-reach, early childhood development, or parenting support is highly valued.
* Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from regional and remote communities is highly desirable.


Qualifications and Other Requirements

* Skills, experience and knowledge working with Aboriginal children and families in mental health settings and broadly across the community services sector.
* Current or willing to obtain vaccinations for Diphtheria, Whooping Cough, Polio, Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chickenpox and Tuberculosis as per SA Health Policy.
* Current or willing to obtain a Working with Children's Check (WWCC).
* Current or willing to obtain Working with Vulnerable People Check.
* Current or willing to obtain a National Police Check (NPC).
