* Fixed term to 1 February 2027, full-time, Current UNE Staff: In taking up this appointment, please be aware your current fixed term or permanent role will cease the day prior to you taking this position
* $98,632 to $ 110,433 per annum HEO7 + 17% super
* Salary packaging options are available
* 20 days family and domestic violence leave available per annum
* 10 days Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural and ceremonial leave per annum
* (Professional Staff) 5 weeks annual leave plus Christmas week shutdown, per annum,
* Armidale based role. Flexible or hybrid work arrangements may be considered
* For continuing and fixed term positions: Applicants must have appropriate Australian work rights for the duration of this position (UNE will not provide sponsorship for this position)

About the role

The Research Governance & Compliance Officer works alongside the Manager, Ethics and Integrity, Research Services, Chairs of committees including Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Foreign Interference (FI), and other Committees as required, as well as external agencies to ensure the Universitys compliance with relevant legislation and guidelines. The role involves:

* Supporting committees with high-level executive support.
* Enhancing, collating and presenting regulatory and compliance advice and training to the research community on matters including biosafety and radiation safety considerations, research safety, dealing with genetically modified organisms, importation of quarantine restricted substances, foreign arrangements, foreign interference, defence trade controls etc.
* Engaging collaboratively across UNE to develop and update policies, procedures, guidelines and internal processes in accordance with relevant acts, regulations and guidelines; and
* Maintaining and developing business process documentation & records, including databases, to inform, promote and implement continuous quality improvement.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

* Excellent communication and organisational skills, with a high level of time management skills. You should have well developed interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise and negotiate with a broad range of stakeholders to achieve agreed outcomes.
* Ideally previous experience in organising meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, and being the contact point to deal with grievances.
* Demonstrated experience to develop, monitor and review policies and procedures and interpret complex legislation, codes and statement¿s and understand, apply and communicate legislation and complex content to assist in providing advice on relevant matters.
* Experience in relation to compiling and providing analysis of statistical information in the preparation of compliance reports for the University and external agencies, including maintenance of effective record keeping.
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple processes, balancing and prioritising tasks, develop and implement monitoring mechanisms and innovative solutions to problems, as well as sound decision-making ability.
* Demonstrated outstanding self-management, initiative and a corporate perspective with the ability to respond positively to a changing work environment

Research Services facilitates and supports the Universitys research efforts through provision of administrative services and support to manage, develop and promote research, research training, knowledge transfer and innovation, including supporting matters relating to university-wide compliance, research ethics and integrity.

This position is a replacement basis to carry out work whilst the incumbent is on leave. The incumbent has the right to return to their substantive position. Should this occur prior to the anticipated end of the secondment or fixed term appointment, this contract may be terminated earlier by giving 4 weeks notice.
