Firefighter Role
This is a physically demanding outdoor position that requires adaptability, collaboration, and an emphasis on safety.
Crew members will support our fire mitigation program by reducing fuel loads, maintaining access routes, and responding to fires during the declared danger period.
Deployment may be local or statewide depending on operational needs. Extended living away from home rosters up to 2 weeks in duration are also possible.
Main Responsibilities
* Executing fire prevention and reduction tasks as well as hazard works
* Operating and maintaining firefighting equipment, machinery, and vehicles
* Supporting fire response operations including frontline firefighting duties when required
* Carrying out vegetation management duties like weed control and clearing drains
* Assisting with inspections and reporting on fire readiness activities
* Maintaining adherence to safety protocols for oneself, colleagues, and the community
Key Skills and Qualifications
* Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
* Able to work independently, follow directions, and complete tasks with minimal supervision
* Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in hot, remote, and rugged environments
* Current manual Driver's Licence (essential)
* Prior experience in firefighting, rural fire brigades, vegetation management, or land conservation (desired)
* Certification in chainsaw operation, chemical application, or 4WD operations (desired)

Additional Requirements
* Passing a pre-employment medical examination and drug & alcohol screening
* Availability to work on a roster including weekends, public holidays, and call-outs during fire danger periods
* Commitment to completing mandatory training prior to deployment
