Laser Scientist/Engineer - EOS Space Systems

Location:

Canberra - Symonston

At Randstad Defence, we're proud to be partnering with Electro Optic Systems (EOS)-a leading force in the design, development, and manufacturing of advanced systems- currently seeking a Laser Scientist/Engineer to join their team in Canberra.

The candidate must be an Australian citizen and be eligible for a security clearance.

About the role:

The position is for a Laser Scientist or Engineer within the EOS Space Systems Research & Development (R&D) team. A successful candidate is expected to undertake laser design, assembly, alignment, testing and maintenance. Also, writing technical documentation and reporting is also part of the routine.

Key Responsibilities:

* Assist with the development of new laser subsystems, primarily high energy lasers for ground-to-space applications. Includes laser design, component specification, assembly, optical alignment, and optimisation.
* Work alongside other engineering disciplines and communicate system requirements.
* Contribute to the instrumentation of cutting-edge opto-electronics subsystems.
* Combine novel technologies or concepts to support the innovation and development of EOS IP.
* Support the Engineering teams and communicate activity and progress to the respective discipline manager and VPs.
* Undertake and document investigative experiments to inform the company's research activities.

Qualifications and Experience:

* Bachelor's degree in Physics/Engineering or a related field.
* Minimum 5 years' experience with bulk solid-state and/or laser systems.
* Experience with the alignment and operation of Class 4 lasers, pulsed and CW.
* Excellent documentation and communication skills.
* Experience with Matlab or a programming language (Python, C++) is desirable.
