 
        
        A Federal Government agency is looking for a payroll officer to join their team on a 12-month contract! 
Your current company

You will work with a Federal Government agency as a Payroll Officer. You will work as part of a team to ensure salaries are paid correctly and on time. 
Your new role 
In your new temporary assignment, you will:
- Perform general payroll processing and maintain accurate staff records
- File documents in line with record management protocols
- Collaborate with staff and business areas to process salaries and entitlements
- Assess payment and leave entitlements against relevant criteria and agreements
- Stay updated on payroll legislation, policies, and enterprise agreements
- Investigate and manage overpayments, including recovery or escalation
- Check payroll accuracy and compliance; resolve processing errors
- Provide payroll advice to managers, staff, and shared services clients
- Escalate pay-related matters requiring senior approval
- Suggest and implement process improvements
- Participate in payroll-related projects
- Train payroll staff and develop guidance materials
- Exercise delegations in line with legislation and guidelines
What you'll need to succeed 
To be successful in this temporary assignment, you will: 
- Knowledge of payroll systems, legislation, policies, procedures, and enterprise agreements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and other spreadsheet tools
- High accuracy, attention to detail, and sound mathematical skills
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to build stakeholder relationships
- Good judgement, problem-solving ability, and an agile mindset to adapt and deliver outcomes
- Either have or the ability to obtain a Baseline security clearance
