About the Organisation
Aboriginal Housing Victoria (AHV) is an Aboriginal community organisation responsible for managing more than 1,800 rental properties for Aboriginal people living in Victoria. AHV is the largest non-government Aboriginal housing organisation in Australia and the lead agency for Victoria's Aboriginal housing and homelessness policy, Mana-na woorn-tyeen maar-takoort (Every Aboriginal Person has a Home). The organisation works in partnership with the government to secure resources and reforms to implement this policy and supports sector development to empower Victoria's Aboriginal community to determine its chosen housing future.
Roles & Responsibilities
The Housing Officer (HO) reports to the Housing Coordinator. The HO is responsible for establishing sustainable tenancies with AHV's client base and undertaking property management duties for a complex client base. The role includes building relationships with support services in the region, assisting clients and supporting community capacity building, and maintaining a sustainable and financially viable housing portfolio across Victoria.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
* Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia.
* Knowledge of tenancy and property management requirements of an Aboriginal housing provider or public housing provider, including the Residential Tenancies Act 1997, and other relevant legislation.
* Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously and operate at a high level of personal responsibility for effective task completion.
* Experience working effectively with clients with complex needs and capable of managing conflict confidently.
* Ability to work collaboratively with AHV colleagues, management, external services and government organisations to achieve positive outcomes.
* Skill to monitor data integrity and apply appropriate procedures for maintaining accurate records.
* Strong attention to detail and exceptional time‐management skills, with the ability to prioritise a demanding workload and remain solution‐focused.
* Proven experience with Microsoft Office suite and ability to learn new software programs.
