**About the Role**:
The Child Safety Officer is accountable for working across Melbourne Polytechnic (MP) to ensure compliant childsafety and wellbeing strategies are embedded across the organization. This position is the central authority for reporting, investigations and escalating allegations and child safety concerns.
The Child Safety Officer will develop, implement, and review major policies, objectives, strategies involving high level liaison and/or consultation and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
They are the central authority for reporting and escalating allegations and child safety concerns for staff, volunteers, students, families, and the wider community, in line with relevant policy and procedure and will contact the relevant authorities when there are concerns about a child's safety, and provide advice in regard to obligations of others.
**Duties**:
- Act as the designated MP Child Safety Officer, responsible for statutory Child Safe Standards (CSS) implementation, continuous improvement, and evolution.
- Advise on responding legally, ethically and in accordance with Policy and Procedure in regards CSS matters and relevant Child Safety legislation.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of CSS policy and procedures, staying current with legal requirements and best practice methodologies

**Skills and Experience Required**:
- Tertiary qualification, preferably in behavioural sciences, social science, welfare, or education; an appropriate major in Psychology; post-graduate qualification in counselling with eligibility for membership to one or more of the following:
- Australian Psychological Society (APS)
- Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) or
- Australian Counselling Association (ACA).
- Current and clear Police Check
- Displayed understanding and familiarity with Child Safety legislation such as the Working with Children Act 2005 (Now Worker Screening Act 2020), Child Wellbeing and Safety Amendment Act 2016, the Child Safe Standards, and Children, Youth and Families Act 2005, mandatory reporting obligations.
