About the opportunity
The University of Sydney's Department of Rural Health – Northern Rivers known locally as the University Centre for Rural Health (UCRH), is a vibrant collaborative academic hub for rural health development. UCRH is located in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, an area characterised by significant disparities in social and economic conditions, a rapidly growing and aging population, and a relatively high proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
UCRH Associate Professor Christopher Williams and his team have research interests focusing on enabling Learning Health Systems, in particular to support better health care for musculoskeletal health, chronic pain and associated chronic disease risks over the life course. The team are embedded into health service departments aiming to develop and evaluate real world solutions for health care inequity in rural areas.
As Senior Research Officer will have an opportunity to assist in a number of musculoskeletal health research projects, partnering with National and State Government Health organisations. This will include involvement in clinical trials and development of research involving clinicians at the front line of rural community health in Northern NSW.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
HEO 7 Senior Research Officer
* provides project management for research programs including project planning, tracking, implementing and reporting.
* ensures that research progresses according to predetermined timelines and in accordance with study protocols, scope and quality.
* takes a lead role in the collection of research data and prepares initial statistical analyses and insights for inclusion in preliminary reports.
* designs, develops and manages appropriate databases to collect and analyse information.
* prepare reports and presentations and may work with the Chief Investigator and/or Senior Academics to source grant funding
* contribute to the research and coordinate administration activities of the discipline
* provide support communication with relevant institutions
* assist with the preparation of research outputs (i.e. journals, conference papers and other publications)
* ensure appropriate ethics or other relevant permission applications are lodged in collaboration with other project stakeholders
* provide expert advice on complex issues to more junior research team members regarding the work they are undertaking
* undertake non routine tasks fairly autonomously, with minimal guidance and/or supervision from the Chief Investigator.
* support and lead consumer, community and clinician involvement activities for research.
In addition, as HEO 8 Senior Research Officer
* provide operational oversight of the research program
* provides high level support and management of funding proposals.
* manage and support research officers
* design and lead consumer, community and clinician involvement activities for research including priority setting partnerships.
About you
HEO 7 Research Officer
* tertiary qualifications likely with master's in health science or related discipline with relevant experience in related field. May have extensive specialist experience in health service clinical trials and an equivalent combination of training and experience
* extensive experience in developing and working on research protocols, SOPs, ethics submissions, research governance and reporting, and grant applications.
* experience designing and applying protocols and databases for trial data collection including outcome and safety data.
* ability to work independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of research and trials operations.
* demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work, sometimes under pressure, with competing priorities and sometimes limited supervision
* excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day-to-day operational matters.
In addition, as HEO 8 Senior Research Officer
* tertiary qualifications likely with/ or working toward a higher degree in research.
* high level writing and editorial capabilities, with experience coordinating research funding applications.
* experience with operational and strategic oversight of a research program or clinical trials, including consumer and/or clinician involvement in research.
